Joseph P. Simes Jr., 69 of West Springfield, passed away on Thursday November 30, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Kane, Pa., July 7, 1948, a son of the late Joseph and Florence (Hendershot) Simes.
Joe grew up in Rixford, Pa, graduating from the Otto-Eldred High School in 1966. Following high school he moved to the Erie area and began his working career. He was employed for 23 years at Rehrig Pacific Co. in Erie, where he worked in the assembly process, retiring from there in 1997. Following his retirement he continued work at Bob Ferrando Ford in Girard for 15 years, working in the Parts Dept there.
He was former Scout Master for the Boy Scouts in East Springfield, a lifetime member of the Northwestern Sportsman Club, where he was active on the board for many years; He also loved hunting and fishing and was a professional clown, and member of the Erie Clowns Inc. His greatest love was to make people laugh, even when he was ill.
Joe will be greatly missed by his family, which include his wife, Victoria “Vicky” (Baum) Simes, whom he married September 23, 1972 in Erie, also by two daughters, Heather J. Tanner (Terry Blum), Niccole L. Tanner (Nicholas); a son, Joseph P. Simes III (Kathleen); two brothers, Bruce E. Simes and Gary A. Simes; his grandchildren, Karley E. Coxe (Michael), Nicholas S. Simes, twins, Julia M. Simes and Jacob T. Simes; many adopted children and grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard.
