I am a native of Girard, PA; and a retired Army officer. Having joined the military in 1974 and having been stationed in many places, my wife and I have attended many funerals throughout the United States. We have never seen the TRUE compassion of those at the Daniel R Edder Funeral Home elsewhere.

My Korea War veteran father desired that the Daniel R Edder Funeral Home (Edders) provide his memorial and burial services. My father passed away in 2013 and Mr. Benjamin (Ben) Tate professionally arranged everything to my family’s COMPLETE satisfaction. The owner and supervisor, Mr. Daniel (Dan) Edder, were travelling to attend his son’s graduation from the Marine Corps boot camp at Camp Lejeune, NC. Having driven all night, Dan and his “new” Marine son attended the early morning pre-burial service at Edders where Marine Pvt David Edder stood guard over my father’s casket. I will NEVER forget that incredibly moving, patriotic gesture - a young Marine honoring an old soldier!

Shortly thereafter a lifelong friend’s father, a WWII veteran, passed away and his memorial and burial services were performed by another funeral home. My friend told me that he wished “they had gone to Edders”. I asked why and my friend’s reply was, “attention to detail”.

Our family subsequently planned for my mother’s memorial and burial services at Edders, and my mother passed away in 2015. Edders honored my mother, a lifelong resident of Girard, as only a neighbor can. Both Dan and his wife, Mrs. Bonnie Edder, were at their funeral home, the Church, and the cemetery to ensure everything was PERFECT. This is what is so very special about Edders and seldom found elsewhere - compassionate owner participation. Moreover, I know in my heart it is TRUE compassion!

Talk to one of Edders’ staff. Your family will not be disappointed. Also, if you are a patriot and have not visited Edders, you should. The office is filled with military memorabilia. It IS a special place!
