Janet (Munson) Crossman

Janet Munson Crossman, 85 of Girard, passed away on Sunday January 1, 2017 at Manchester Commons.

She was born on May 26, 1931 in Rochester, PA, a daughter of the late Gerald and Evelyn Elm Munson.

Janet graduated from Conneaut Lake High School in 1949, where she participated in cheerleading and then attended Garfield Business Institute in Beaver Falls. She was a stenographer in the sales department of the former National Bearing Division of the American Brake Shoe Company in Meadville. Janet lived and worked at the Crossman family fruit farm for much of her married life. In later years she worked at Kaufmann's Department Store in Erie.

Janet was a member of the Girard United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for 25 years, taught third and fourth grade Sunday School, was active in the United Methodist Women, the Susannah and Naomi Circles, the Girard's 55er's Group and was also a cancer volunteer.

She enjoyed her family, friends, her pet cats and birds, the outside rabbits, wild birds and watching sports. Even though she suffered from Multiple Sclerosis for the past 30 years, she continued to be active and devoted to her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2012 by her husband, Paul S. Crossman, whom she married on January 2, 1954 in Conneaut Lake, a sister-in-law, Lois Munson and nephew, Christopher Robertson.

Janet is survived by three daughters, April A. Crossman (Larry Serene) of Waterford, Jill Abbott (David) of Erie, and Lynn Crossman (fiance' Robert Slonski) of Waterford; two sisters, Geraldine Pletcher (Robert) of Nashville, TN and Patricia Robertson (James) of Greenville, PA; a brother, Jerry Munson of Meadville; four grandchildren, David Cullen, Erin Adams (Nathan), Ryan Abbott (Jenifer) and Colleen Reeves (Pierce); great-grandchildren Tyler Cullen, Alaina Adams, Blair Reeves and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 14th at the Girard United Methodist Church, 48 Main St. East, Girard at 11a.m. with Rev. Brock Beveridge officiating.
