Ronald R. Salhoff, 71 of East Springfield, passed away unexpectedly on Friday September 30, 2016 at St. Vincent Health Center.
He was born May 20, 1945 in Elk Creek Twp, a son of Harry and Mabel (Eddy) Salhoff.
Ron graduated from Albion High School in 1963. Following high school he was inducted into the US Army and was deployed to Vietnam in 1966 with the 498th Medical Company-Air Ambulance. The Motto of the Company is, "Dedicated unhesitating service to our fighting forces." He received the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, The Air Medal with V/device, the Army Combat Badge, the Overseas Service Bar, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Ron lived the motto of his company the remainder of his life, dedicating his life as Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #4965(2X) and active in their Honor Guard also participating in many Memorial Day services and others to remember the fallen. He was also a member of the Conneaut OH American Legion Post #151; the Girard American Legion Post #494; the Eagles #408 in Conneaut; the Moose Lodge #472 in Conneaut and the Albion area Sportsman’s Club.
Upon his discharge from the military in 1969, he returned to the Albion area and married Sharon Miller. The marriage unfortunately ended, however the couple had three beautiful children, Brent M. Salhoff (Darlene) of Edinboro, Rhonda R. Hall (Ernie) of Ashtabula, OH.
He is also survived by his close companion, Carolyn S. Bordner; his sisters, Hazel Peterson and Lois Petri (John): three granddaughters, Heidi Camp, Brittany Camp and Mackenzie Salhoff; one great granddaughter, Ella Finlaw and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Ron was preceded in death by his son, Brian Salhoff in 2015; his sisters, Lucille, Doris, Grace, Alice and Irene; brothers George and Jerry Salhoff.
Ron most recently had been employed at ESAB Group Inc. in Ashtabula retiring from the Shipping and receiving department, retiring after 32 years with the company. Following his retirement he later worked at the Beechwood Golf Course on the "Greens Crew" as well as maintenance. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, his camp at Tidioute and especially time with his family.
Friends may call on Monday from 1-3pm and 6-8pm at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard. Services will be held there on Tuesday at 10AM with Rev. Barb English officiating.
Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery with full military honors. Remembering and honoring our fallen soldier.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Ronald Salhoff Memorial Fund C/O Edder Funeral Home.
