June E. (Rogers) Mathews, 89 of Girard, passed away on Saturday February 11, 2017 at her home following a brief illness.

She was born in North Girard May 30, 1927, a daughter of the late Glenn and Addie (Garity) Rogers.

June was raised in Girard by her Aunt and Uncle, Helen and John Wegmiller, graduating from the Rice Avenue Union High School in 1946. While in high school she belonged to the Library Club, and reading remained an activity throughout her life. For over thirty years June enjoyed her career as a sales associate at Buyers Fair. She also enjoyed time with her family, especially during family vacations and Sunday afternoon drives. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo and many types of games. June especially enjoyed hosting all family celebrations.

She was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Girard.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle who raised her, Helen and John Wegmiller; her daughter, Janet M. Mathews; her son, Walter Whitaker III; her brothers, Robert Rogers, Chuck "Toots" Rogers and William Rogers.

She will be greatly missed by her family which include her husband, Robert L. Mathews, whom she married July 23, 1955 in Girard; her daughters, Kathleen J. Swanseger (Daniel) of Erie, Alicia A. Frey (John) of Millcreek; a daughter in law, Sue Whitaker of Lake City; her grandchildren, Jason R. Lesh (Chastity), Anne E. Rendine (Jared), Dr. Katherine R. Whitaker (Beau Monnot), Leah M. Benefield (Chris); her great grandchildren, Kara, Cassandra, Lilian, Tyler, Hailey, Preston; her great granddaughter, Melody; several sisters and brothers in law and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday at Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard from 4p.m. to the time of a Prayer Service at 7p.m.with Deacon Joseph Cicero officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Rice Avenue Community Public Library, 705 Rice Ave., Girard, PA 16417
