George R. Drushel, 81 of Girard, passed away on Monday June 20, 2016 at St. Vincent Health Center following a brief illness.

He was born October 6, 1934 in Erie a son of the late George E. and Marie E. Guianen Drushel.

George graduated from the Cathedral Prep High School with "The Crew of 52". Following high school he attended and graduated from Gannon University, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in History in 1956. While at Gannon he participated in Army ROTC. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era where he was a First Lieutenant, where he served in the Army Intelligence and Security.

Upon his discharge from the military, he moved to Girard and joined McQuillen Oldsmobile, where he continued to work throughout his life as a Salesperson for 60 years.

George and his infectious smile will be greatly missed by his family and those attending various sporting events. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard, where he was a past Usher. George was a proud member of Delta Sigma Phi at Gannon University; a member of the Girard American Legion Post #494, a past member of the Girard Recreational Board, The Girard Boro Pool Manager, a PIAA Swim official, The Northwest JC’s, Lakeshore Country Club, The Exchange Club (now FLAGS) and was voted West County Automobile Salesman of the Year. George also enjoyed his monthly lunches with his Sacred Heart classmates.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by twin son and daughter in 1956, George R. and Patricia E. Drushel, in infancy.

George will be greatly missed by his beloved family, which includes his wife of 60 years, Patricia A. (McQuillen) Drushel, whom he married February 11, 1956 in Girard, also by two daughters, Maureen A. Drushel and her fiancé’ Rodney Getz of Girard, Kathleen M. Drushel-Debelak of Girard; three sons, George P. Drushel (Kim) of Girard, John F. Drushel (Tammy) of SanTan Valley, AZ, Matthew T. Drushel of Paris, France; a sister, Eileen Becker (Charles) of Tucson, AZ, his grandchildren, Alyssa Drushel, Kelly Drushel, Delaney Drushel, Erin Debelak and John G. Drushel also several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 2-5PM and 7-9PM at Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. A Prayer service will be held there on Saturday at 9:30AM followed by the Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 101 Olin Ave., Girard at 10AM with Rev. William Miller officiating.
