William P. Rieger, 84, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
He was born January 16, 1940, a son to the late Harold and Angeline (Mancuso) Rieger. William attended Academy High School until his senior year and then enlisted in the United States Army serving with the 464th Quartermaster Group in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Later, he served as a jeep driver for a Colonel.
Following his honorable discharge from the United States Army, William returned to Erie. He began working for Lord Corporation in their manufacturing area for seven and half years, then moving to Hammermill. He owned Avantis' restaurant, working there for many years before he eventually retired in 2007.
William was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He also loved playing cards, particularly poker.
William was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Rieger, Wallace Rieger and Ronald Reiger; and one sister, Donna Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Mercurio) Rieger, whom he married February 14, 2005 in Nigrara falls, NY; two sons, William Rieger II (Meghan) and John M. Rieger; sister, Christine Chase; two brothers, Robert Rieger, and Joseph Rieger; two grandchildren, Roxanne Kloeckner and Ashley Webster; and three great-grandchildren Emma Kloeckner, Noah Kloeckner, and Locklin Webster.
In lieu of flowers, donations in William's name may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1626 W 26th St, Erie, PA 16508.
Per the families request, services will be held privately.
