William F. Thorr, 90, of Lake City, passed on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. He was born April 16, 1933, the son of the late Francis and Marion (Wurst) Thorr.
Bill grew up in Erie and attended Strong Vincent High School. Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Heavy Weapons Infantry Division, stationed in Germany. He attained the rank of Sergeant, was awarded the Occupation Medal of Germany and was honorably discharged.
He married Johanna Mae Nagel and soon started a family of five children, where they were members of Saint Johns Catholic Church in Girard.
Bill began his working career at American Sterilizer Company (Amsco), initially as a laborer. Through hard work and continued education, he excelled within the company, earning multiple promotions over the years, eventually retiring as an NC Programmer.
Following retirement, he continued to work hard. Bill was an avid outdoorsman and a skilled carpenter. He loved the simplicity of nature and built his home along a forest stream in Warren, Pennsylvania. His passion for nature reflected in his craftsmanship. Bill enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. He was very proud to have successfully achieved the Turkey Grand Slam.
Bill’s commitment to his family and dedication to preserving family traditions truly defined his character. He cherished and took great pride in his family. His knowledge and love of the outdoors, as well as his strong work ethics, have been passed down and are deeply rooted in his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Johanna (Nagel) Thorr; son, Michael Thorr; and brother, Daniel Thorr.
He will be greatly missed by his family which include his daughters, Judi Weidler (Michael) and Jennifer Shaffer; sons, Stephen Thorr (Tammy) and Thomas Thorr (Karyn); 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services are being privately held by the family; burial will take place in St. Johns Cemetery.
