William Michaelson, 83, of Girard, died Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Pleasant Ridge Manor following a battle with cancer.
He was born on October 2, 1939, a son to the late Charles R. and Pauline G. (Klimek) Michaelson.
Bill grew up in the Fairview area, graduating from Fairview High School in 1958. Following high school he enlisted into the United States Navy where he served on a Seaplane Tender. After his honorable discharge he returned to the Erie area where he worked in construction. Shortly after he began his career at Parker White Metal where he stayed for over thirty years, starting as a filer and working through to an Inspection Manager, he retired with a job well done.
He was a man that cared for his home and family. Bill kept a garden in the summertime and leant a helping hand to his father at the local gas station when needed. He was very active being involved in bowling, golf and the great joy of snowmobiling. Bill and his wife were founding members of the West County Snow Mobile Club. He enjoyed taking his family camping and spending time with his children. Bill loved to work with wood, often creating gifts and crafts for his wife to paint. He was able to think through a plan and carry it out, a true task when he built his home. He also assisted in several buildings for family. In his later years, he and his wife traveled the country in a camper enjoying life on the road. When back home Bill was delighted to hunt at the family camp and play cards around the table creating memories. Bill was a member of the St. Johns Evangelist Catholic Church as well as the Girard American Legion Post #494.
He will be greatly missed by his family which include his wife of over 50 years, Judith (Vargo) Michaelson; daughter, Joanne Wilson (Chester Dzeskewicz); son, Michael Michaelson (Stephanie); sister, Nancy Briody (Richard); brother, Charles Michaelson (Tracy), grandchildren, Jacqueline Wilson, Twlight Michaelson and Alex Michaelson.
A special thank you to the in-home nurse, Donna, as well as the ECCM nurses, the Interim nurses and VNA nurses as well as the staff at the Regional Cancer Center for all of their great care. The family would also like to thank the staff at Pleasant Ridge, particularly Chanell, Donna and Gabby.
