Viola Teudhope Obituary

Viola M. (Lippert) Teudhope, 98, of Girard, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 13, 2023, surrounded by family.

She was born September 28, 1925, a daughter of the late John and Isabelle (Thuret) Lippert.

Viola grew up in Pettis, on the outskirts of Meadville on the family farm and Cider Mill. Her early education came in the form of a quaint one room schoolhouse until the eighth grade. From then on she chose to work, first at a local zipper shop known as the Talon in downtown Meadville. After World War II she met her husband, Thomas D. Teudhope, a carpenter from West Springfield. They met at the Odd Fellows. They were married on October 1, 1947. The couple moved to Albion and built their first home. After her first child was born Viola began work at Marx Toys on the assembly line, where she stayed for 30 years. In 1959, they moved to Girard and built their forever home.

Her life was full of family and friends. Viola would go out of her way to help those around her. She was a master seamstress, creating clothing and dresses for her children and herself. She designed and created afghans and quilts for the family, tokens that will be cherished for years to come. Viola always extended a warm welcome to all, giving those in need a place to stay as well as entertainment. Viola’s joy came from square dancing with her husband and watching Lawrence Welk with her family. She took pride baking and cooking family meals, especially her homemade pies. In the fall the home was full of the wonderful smell of pots boiling as she canned that year’s harvest from her garden. She was an avid gardener and she harvested a large raspberry patch that she contributed to local markets. Each part of the process was well organized and planned much like the other portions of her life. Deeply rooted in her faith, Viola was a devout Catholic. She was a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Church where she assisted in any way she could. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Teudhope Jr., whom she married on October 1, 1947; brothers, Clarence, Dale, Earl and Roy Lippert; sisters, Hazel Prenatt and Marie Hamilton.

She will be greatly missed by her family which include her daughters, Madonna Brown (Robert) and Marlene Straub (Paul); son, Thomas Teudhope II; grandchildren, Robert Brown  (Angela), Melissa Anderson (Carl), Timothy Brown (Debbie), Benjamin Straub (Colleen), Adam Straub (Julie), Douglas Straub (Rachel); thirteen great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
