Thomas Morton Obituary

Thomas Allen Morton, 85, of Girard, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born May 24, 1940, to the late Burdette and Ann (Barrante) Morton Fileger.

Tom grew up in Girard and graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1958. Following high school, he attended Edinboro College as an art major.  After he realized the art community would seriously hamper his artistic development, he chose a different path.

In 1961 he was inducted into the United States Army and stationed with Headquarters Battery Fourth Battalion 92nd Field Artillery at Fort Bragg.  During his service he was a radio technician, operated in Morse Code, and attained the rank of Corporal.  Tom was Honorably discharged in 1962 and returned home to the Erie area.

Tom then began a successful, life-long career in sales, and as a part-time bartender until he retired.  His creative artistic talents were put to great use in a variety of ways throughout his lifetime in his career and at home including countless artistic creations; starting his own auto-body repair shop, Car Nu Process, and as a bartender creating a few of his own named drinks.  Tom loved to gather with extended family - aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins, throughout the year, but especially for their annual family reunion.

He will be remembered as a man with a great sense of humor, who often brought laughter to any gathering, and who loved playing guitar, listening to music, hunting and fishing.  He was also an avid history buff of WW2.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his first wife Joanne (Daggett) Morton Desko and his brother, James Morton.

He will be greatly missed by his family which includes his son, Todd Morton (Debbie); his daughter, Dianne Morton; grandchildren, Erica and Shawn Morton-Beltz, Zachary Morton (Bianka), and Anna Cameron (Quinn); as well as great-grandchildren, Emersyn, Hunter, and Charlotte.

The family would like to express their dearest thanks to Lakeland Hospice for their wonderful care during a difficult time.
