Obituary

In loving memory of Thomas Karl Hanninen.

Thomas Karl Hanninen, was born on November 18th, 1941 in Erie, PA to William O. and Evelyn M. Hanninen.

Tom passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at the age of 81.

Recently, Tom enjoyed traveling between Erie, PA and Plano, TX.  In his early years, Tom attended Cathedral Prep School and graduated from Gannon University in Erie, PA. Tom served in Vietnam as an army medic and was honorably discharged.  Tom and Nancy met at St. Vincent’s hospital and were married in 1969. Tom was a Product Procurement Coordinator until retirement when he moved to Plano, TX to be close to his daughters and their families.

Tom was an avid gamesman. He loved to hunt and fish.  Tom loved nature and could often be found pruning his prize roses or lilies, tending to his vegetable garden, or watching the birds at his feeders through his binoculars. He was a master gardener and grew the juiciest tomatoes for his prized salsa and BLTs. Tom loved salted nuts, trash talking during Phase 10, teaching his grandchildren chess, vintage wood puzzles, Coors Light, visits to the Dallas Arboretum, and a good book. Tom was a devoted parent and grandparent and could often be seen on the sidelines rooting for loved ones.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Allen McCall.

He will be dearly missed and is survived by his wife, Nancy Hanninen, his daughters Julie Kilgore (husband Brett Kilgore), Beth Brown, and Katie Lauver (husband Aaron Lauver), and his six grandchildren, Noah Brown, Mason Brown, Collin Kilgore, Kennedy Kilgore, Evelyn Lauver and his namesake Thomas Lauver; brother, Norm Fedor (Judy), Ryan Fedor, Corey Fedor, Hallie Fedor Johnston (Rob) and Aunt Loretta Colegrande, Laurie Bizzaro (Joe) and Ann Hettrick, Aunt Joanne Hosier and  Carol Clemente (Art); sister in law, Barbara (Nason) McCall, Karen Repas Thompson (Jim) and Scott Allen McCall (Amy).

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
