Shirley M. (Lawrence) Vorse

Shirley M. Vorse, 95 of Girard, PA, passed away suddenly December 17th at Saint Vincent Hospital. Shirley was born in Franklin Township, Erie County, on May 13, 1926 to the late Orson and Ruth Goodnow Lawrence. 

 

She attended Girard and Edinboro High Schools and earned her G.E.D. from American School of Chicago. Shirley worked at Marx Toys for over 22 years and for short periods of time at Hays Manufacturing Co., Erie Resistor Co. and C. G. Wood in Girard. She also worked at Edinboro University and then Pleasant Ridge Manor for almost 22 years, from which she later retired.  Shirley attended the Christian and Missionary Church for a long time. She enjoyed walking, gardening, reading, Bible study, genealogy, crossword puzzles and music.

 

 In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd E. Vorse Sr.; her brother, Frank Lawrence; sisters, Thelma Hayes, Nina Vogt, and Marion Platz; sister-in-law, Lucille Lawrence; a grandson, Joseph Cesario; a grandson-in-law, Steve Waller; nieces, Janet Raffensberger and Charlotte Hudacky; and nephews, Wesley and Wayne Lawrence and John Allen Hudacky.

 

  Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Litz and her husband Tom of Girard; her son, Boyd E. Vorse, Jr. and his wife Carol of Girard. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Anthony Cesario (Jackie), Chris Cesario (Vivian), Aimee Waller, Monica King (David) and Bridget Vorse; and her stepgrandchildren, Steve Litz (Liz), Gregory Litz (Kacey) and Sandy Newsome. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Bradley and Grace Cesario, Skylar Patefield, and Nathan and Devon Waller, and Olivia Vorse; her step great-grandchildren, Morgan, Lyndsey, Alexander, Trevor, Brittney, Brianna, Brandon, Kelsey, Andie and Lili; great-great-grandchildren, Evan and Hadley; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

The family would like to thank the staff of Fairview Manor for their care and dedication to Shirley these last seven years. 

 

Friends may call from Monday, December 20th from 5-8pm at Edder Funeral Home, Inc. 309 East Main Street, with a service Tuesday at 10am at the funeral home.

 

Burial will take place in Girard Cemetery.
