Shirley Loretta (Burkett) Russin, 87, of Girard, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at home surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born October 11, 1937, a daughter to the late Russell and Ella (Burkett) Adams.
Shirley graduated from Fairview High School in 1955. Shortly after, she began a family that would always be the cornerstone of her life. In the early years, she and her husband planned summer camping trips to Canada, many stateside lakes and streams, and their camp at Tidioute, with family, friends and their beloved dog, Babe, often accompanying.
As a mother, Shirley showed her love and care in countless thoughtful ways, always remembering what each child needed. She was a devoted homemaker for many years, and as her children grew older, she expanded her efforts into the endeavors of her growing family, always placing them first.
In the colder months, evenings and weekends were often spent dancing and socializing with friends. Shirley remained close to her parents and siblings throughout her life, cherishing those relationships deeply.
Music was a special part of her home life; her husband played guitar while Shirley harmonized beside him, filling their home with warmth and joy. The family also maintained a special tract of land, fondly known as "The Property," which continues to be a cherished gathering place for all who loved her.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Russin, whom she married on September 1, 1967; and two sisters, Pearl Adams and Virginia Miller.
She will be greatly missed by her family which includes her daughters, Natalie Szymanowski and Sherri Hanzelka; sons, Ed Hanzelka (Shari), Robert Russin (Lisa), Scott Russin (Kris), Eric Russin (Michelle); grandchildren, Josh Szymanowski (Joyce), Michael Russin (Geneva), Sarah Russin, Jeremiah Russin, Tim Russin, Morgan Russin; great-grandchildren, Summer and Joshua Szymanowski; Ada, Elloise, and Magdalene Russin; Mateo Burgos; and Makaiah Stiles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to A. F. Dobler Hose and Ladder Company, 37 Walnut St, Girard, PA 16417.
