Shirley R. Rilling

Shirley R. Marthaler Rilling, 93, of Erie died on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge. 

Shirley was born January 19, 1929 in Girard, a daughter of the late John E. Marthaler and Rose J. (Wegmiller) Marthaler Ahl.

She graduated from Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School in 1947 and worked as a dental assistant at the O'Leary Dental Group in Girard. Later following her marriage, Shirley became a homemaker and raised and cared for her young family.  

Shirley was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Girard, where she was a Sunday School Coordinator and a member of the Choir, Altar Guild and Quilter's Club. She had been a Girl Scout Troop Leader and enjoyed quilting, scrap-booking and knitting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in 2009 by her beloved husband of 57 years, Fred. H. Rilling Jr.; and by her sisters, Muriel J., Betty J. and Marilyn M. Marthaler.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her four daughters, Wendy Sue Wojtecki and her husband Michael of McKean, Kimberly A. Brown and her husband Robert of Las Vegas, NV, Tracy L. Pastewka of Union, MO, and Melissa L. Metzfield and her husband Thomas of Ashburn, VA; her grandchildren, Nicholas J. Ferraro, Stephanie M. Caldwell (Kyle), Ashley M. Petter (Jon), Lauren K. Pastewka (Charles) and William T. Metzfield (Sarah); great-grandchildren Madison, Abigail, Amelia, Gabriel, Cole, Drew, Troy, Gabriel, Miles and Sawyer.
 
Friends may call on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at the Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. E. Girard, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held the following day, Monday, August 22, 2022 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 8942 W. Ridge Rd, Girard, PA 16417 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Girard Cemetery.
