Shirley (Leach) Miller

Shirley A. Miller (Leach), 90 , of Girard and formerly of Platea, PA, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024.

She was born in Polk, PA on November 10, 1934, a daughter to the late Ervin H. and Louise M. Herring Leach.

Shirley attended school in Cherry Creek, NY and Kennedy, NY before graduating from Lawrence Park High School in 1953. She then went on to work at Hammermill Paper Co. where she loaded machines, sorted, and counted paper for five years. She left work to care for her parents and family and was a caregiver throughout her life. Shirley made her home in Platea, PA where she resided for over sixty years. She gave back to her community, regularly volunteering her time to the Platea Fire Department Auxiliary and as a Republican Committee person for twenty-five years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Miller, who passed in 2007 after fifty-one years of marriage. She was also preceded by her five brothers and four sisters; Ervin (Bumper) Leach of North East, PA, Raymond Leach of Erie, PA, William Leach of North East, PA, Howard Leach of Lauderdale, MS, James Leach of Anchorage, AK, Betty Teribery of Erie, PA, Margaret Leach of North East, PA, Mildred North of Edinboro, PA, and Beverly Logue of Erie, PA.

Shirley is survived by her children; Cindy Mason (James) of Lake City, and George E. Miller of Girard, PA; her grandsons, Daniel Mason of Meadville, Tyler Miller of Buffalo, and Eric Miller of Albion; and a great granddaughter, Carollyn Miller. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Nancy Leach of Lauderdale, MS.; as well as many nieces and nephews spread throughout the country.

A special thank you to the family and friends who showed love and support for Shirley and a very special thank you to the ladies of AseraCare Hospice.

Per the family’s request, services will be held privately. A celebration of life luncheon will be held on a later date following the holidays.
