Shirley L. Kephart, 92, formerly of Girard, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, in Valdese, NC.
She was born September 13, 1930, in Johnstown, PA, a daughter of Harold and Elizabeth Hughes Pelton.
Shirley graduated in 1949 from Madara High School in Clearfield County. Following high school, she began her working career in Pittsburgh at the Sunshine Biscuit Company. Upon her husband's discharge from the US Air Force, they moved to the Girard area, where she began working at Loblaw's in Erie and later at the Lake City IGA for 23 years.
She was a member of the New Beginnings Full Gospel Church in Fairview, attended Conneaut Church of God and was a volunteer at the local food pantry. Shirley enjoyed reading and working on her cross-stitch projects.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse L. Kephart, whom she married May 13, 1950, in Madera, PA; a daughter-in-law, Juanita (Slater) Kephart and two brothers, Dean Pelton and Harold Pelton II; a sister, Marie Forsha.
She will be greatly missed by her family, which includes her two daughters, Deborah L. Bax of Lenoir, NC and Brenda L. (Vitus (VJ)) Kaiser of Erie; two sons, David L. Kephart (Deborah) of Albion, PA, Thomas L. Kephart (Marilyn) of Morgantown, NC; Sister, Dorothy Allman (Jack); 11 grandchildren, Kelly (Randy), David (Tammy), Thomas II (Amber), Jason (Callie), Daniel, Heather (Michael), Darren (Caitlin), Samantha (Zachary), Vitus (Emily), Emma (Antonio) and Sarah (Michael); 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 PM at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and attend services there on Monday at 10AM with Pastor Paul Friend officiating.
Burial will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
