Shirley (Barton) Hedglin

Shirley Barton Hedglin, 88, of Girard, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Edinboro Manor.

She was born on January 1, 1934 in Meadville, a daughter of the late Leon A. and Etta M. (Holets) Barton.

Shirley was raised and educated in Albion, graduating from Albion High School in 1951. She had worked for Mor-Lite Manufacturing in Girard and Libby Plastics in Lake City.  She began working at Teledyne/Penn-Union in Edinboro as a punch press operator where she worked for 30 years retiring from there in 1998.

She was a former Sunday school teacher at the Nazarene Church in Albion and also a former Board member there as well. She enjoyed working around her home and enjoyed riding motorcycles and flying in her younger years. Shirley cared for her family deeply and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed baking and making her well known and loved cakes. She also loved doing puzzles and playing Yahtzee and Skip-Bo which she always cheated at! She wasn't afraid to tell you what was on her mind or ask you inappropriate questions! She truly was an amazing woman who was loved by many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Hedglin, whom she married in 1962; brothers, Melvin and Grace Barton and Gene and Verna Barton and a sister, June M. Mihalak.

Shirley will be greatly missed by her family which include is survived by three sons, Douglas E. Hedglin (Amy) of Girard, Michael J. Hedglin (Cheryl) of McKean and Kenneth A. Hedglin (Michele) of Erie, five grandchildren, David Hedglin (Andrea), Tricia Reiser (Joe) and D.J. Hedglin Jr (Heather), Tyler and Julia Hedglin; great grandchildren, Trinity, Dylan and Arianna Richardson, Veronica, Andreanna and Vivianna Hedglin; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00PM and 6:00 to 8:00PM at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard. 

Burial will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens which will be held privately.
