Shirley M. George, of Lake City, PA ended her journey with Dementia on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Edinboro Manor.
She was born in Bradford, PA on March 21, 1944 to the late Charles E. and Eva M. Smyth. During her childhood and adolescent years, Shirley enjoyed summering at Chautauqua Lake while soaking up the sunshine at her parents' purple cottage. Shirley also had the honor of being crowned a Bradford Township Queen.
Shirley worked for Copes Vulan for 20 years and later for Hydro-Pak. She was crocheted avidly and could make anything, even without a pattern. Shirley was a founding member of the Lake City-Girard Lion's Club, an election worker for Lake City Borough, and a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church.
She loved taking pictures, finding treasures at garage sales, being near the water, campfires, and Hallmark Christmas movies. Shirley's homemade meatballs and no bake cookies were sought after by those who knew her, and if you were on her Christmas list, her homemade Carmel Popcorn was a treat for those lucky recipients. Most importantly, Shirley dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She lived as the best example of kindness embodied and taught her children the importance of giving to others in effort to make the world a better place for all.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert A. George (2022); paternal grandparents, Charles & Mary Smyth; maternal grandparents, Charles & Ruby Wolcott; sister-in-law, Brenda Ruth; and nephew, Scott Ruth.
Shirley will be deeply missed by daughters, Lyne M. Daniels, Leigh (Mike) Senger, and Loretta (Dave) Cummings; grandchildren, Alecia (Trevor), Carley (Dylan), Ashlee, and Nicholas (Katie); great-grandsons, Tristan, Landon, Evan, and Henry; sister, Charlene Heidorn; brother-in-law, Fred Ruth; nieces, Deb, Tina, Rhonda, Heather, and Anne; nephew, Brad Ruth; as well as many family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Edinboro Manor for the outstanding care and compassion provided to their mother these last 3 1/2 years, with special thanks going to Michelle, Lisa, Amanda, Jamie, and Drew - her angels.
Visitation will be held at Edder Funeral Home, Monday, August 19th from 4 until 7pm with a Memorial Service starting at 7 pm. Burial will be Friday, August 23 at 12pm in McKean Memorial Park, Bradford, PA.
