Shirley A. (Edder) Applebee, 90 of Erie, went to be with her Lord, on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Nightingale Nursing & Rehab Center.
She was born October 20, 1931, in Salina, PA, (Westmorland County) a daughter of the late Elmer V. and Martha (Shoemaker) Edder.
Shirley graduated from Elders Ridge High School in 1949. Following high school, she moved to the Erie area and worked at Erie Resistor for nine years. She also assisted local farmers during harvest time in the North East area picking apples and grapes. She later went to work for the Wattsburg School District where she was well known in the cafeteria for many years, retiring from there in 1995.
She was a long-time member of the Phillipsville United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and Bible School. She was at one time self-employed with her husband Bob in the crafts and sewing business.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Robert "Bob" Applebee, whom she married March 10, 1951 in Phillipsville, also by brothers, Rev. Merritt W. Edder, John H. "Jack" Edder, and James W. Edder.
She will be greatly missed by her family, which include her daughter, Tammy L. Astemborski (Robert) of Erie; son, Rev. Mark R. Applebee (Brenda) of Interlachen, FL; a sister, Doris "Linda" (Edder) Nolf; two brothers, Terry (Rose) Edder and Thomas "Tom" Edder (Ina); her grandchildren, Toni Jewell (Jonathan) and Travis Parke (Krissy); great grandchildren, Beth, John, Julia Jewell and Ethan and Riley Dongre also many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2PM to 4PM and 6 PM to 8 PM at the Phillipsville United Methodist Church, 11469 Phillipsville Road, Wattsburg and are invited to attend services there on Thursday at 10 AM with Rev. Harold Blair officiating.
Burial will be in the Wattsburg Cemetery.

Shirley's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Nightingale and ninth floor staff at St. Vincent Hospital for their compassionate and excellent care.
