Sarah J. Blystone, 80, of Girard, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, with her family by her side, at Pleasant Ridge Manor.
She was born on January 11, 1943, in North Girard, a daughter of the late Virgil L. and Florence (Copeland) Blystone.
Sarah graduated from Girard’s Rice Avenue Union High School in 1963. Following high school, she worked for W.O. Davis, of Fairview, who owned Toledo Scales as a nanny for many years.
She was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church where she assisted with daycare duties as well as during church services. She was President of Resident Council at Pleasant Ridge Manor and enjoyed bingo, knitting, crocheting and crafts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Bailey; a sister-in-law, Mary Blystone; brothers in law, Gerald Twichel, Michael Richko, Thomas Fluegel, Jim Hayes and Bill Kennedy; nephew, LCPL. Richard Fluegel, who was killed in the USMC Beirut Bombing in 1983, niece, Debra (Twichel) Mattson; her furbabies, Lucky and Gizmo.
She will be greatly missed by her family, which include her sisters, Thelma Blystone, Marjorie Twichel, Martha Blystone, Freda Richko, Alice Sargent and Marilou Fluegel; her brothers, Larry Blystone, Willard Blystone (Ruth) and Edward Blystone (Dottie Ebert); a brother-in-law, Steven Bailey and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a Memorial Service at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 3856 W. 10th St., Erie, PA 16505 on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 11 AM, with Rev. Kathleen Schoeneck and Robert Yates officiating, with luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Erie Co. Diabetes Association, 1120 State St., Erie, PA 16501, or Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Foundation, 100 Barber Place, Erie, PA 16507.
