Russell H. Shumaker, 83 of Richmond, VA died on August 24, 2022 at Bon Secour Memorial Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 17, 1939 in Erie, PA to the late Adolph Shumaker and Stella Bujnoski.
Throughout his life Russell lived and worked in a variety of locations. Growing up in Lawrence Park, Russ was active in the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Tech Memorial and went on to earn a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Gannon University. Russ worked at Copes Vulcan and American Sterilizer and subsequently moved on to positions in Indiana and Delaware before settling in Richmond, VA in 1984. There he designed displays for the Science Museum of VA and engineered projects for the Physics Department at Virginia Commonwealth University.
A lifelong supporter of the Arts, Russ especially enjoyed all varieties of music and theater and supported cultural endeavors wherever he resided. In 1996 Russ and his sister, Nancy, reconnected and embarked on a long lived relationship. Although they did not grow up together, they developed a close bond later in life enjoying common interests, visits, and exchanging family stories. Russ’s quiet demeanor, caring ways, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved this very special individual.
He will be greatly missed by his family which include his sister, Nancy and her husband Tom Pallan of Girard, PA.
