Robert J. Tracy, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 in Tavares, Florida.
Robert "Bob" was born on June 13, 1930 in Silver Creek, NY, a son of the late Elmer and Pearl
(Newcome) Tracy.
Bob's family moved to Erie, PA in 1939. He graduated from East High School in 1950, having
enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves at age 17 in 1947. While at East High he lettered in track
and cross country and was considered an outstanding math and science student. After
graduation he began work at Pennsylvania Telephone Corporation (later becoming GTE PA and
now Verizon Communications) and soon after was called to active duty in the US Navy in 1950
as an EM3 during the Korean Conflict. Bob was honorably discharged in 1952 and flew home to
attend his sweetheart and future wife Jean's high school graduation. He then returned to work at
Verizon and worked as a lineman, installer-repairman, field engineer, and engineering
supervisor, and retired as program administrator in 1987.
Bob was an active member of the Harborcreek Planning commission and the Harbor Creek
Booster Club. He was a pitcher for the Gen. Tel. and Tenth Street Methodist Softball Teams.
He was a member of the Allegheny Canoe Club for many, many years and was also a member
of the American Contract Bridge League. Bob enjoyed hunting all his life, played tennis and
pickleball, and loved canoeing and rafting with Jean on Youghiogheny River, throughout PA,
Canada, and the western States.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Grace Powers and Etta
Gustafson; and by his brothers, Frank and Norman Tracy.
Bob will be forever loved by his wife, Lois Jean (McLean) Tracy, whom he married on
November 2, 1952 in Erie; his daughter, Kim (Tracy) Graziano and her husband Richard of
Fairview; his sons, Dr. James J. Tracy and his wife, Marilyn of New Smyrna Beach, Fl. and
Robert N. Tracy and his wife, Susan of Salem, OH; grandchildren, Suzanne Tracy, Katie Tracy,
Dr. Adam Tracy and his wife Jill, Zachary Tracy and his wife Alexandra, and Jessica (Graziano)
Imboden and her husband Connor; great grandchild, Everly Imboden along with several nieces
and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at the family’s discretion at a later date.
