Robert L. Ryan

Robert L. Ryan, 81, of Girard, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital.  
He was born on October 26, 1941, in Girard, PA, son of the late Olin L. and Pauline E. (Frank) Ryan.
Bob graduated from Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School in 1960. As a "Yellow Jacket" athlete, Bob competed in baseball and basketball. He was also a member of the high school marching band, where he played the trombone as well as playing for the Dobler Hose Band. 
A lifelong resident of Girard, Bob began working at Beaver Paint Company after graduating high school and remained there for 24 years before going to work for the PA Liquor Control Board where he retired in 2003 as an Assistant Manager.  He worked part-time for 40 years at the Girard Area Industrial Development Corporation.  Bob was one of the co-founders of the Girard Boys Mini-League program and stayed actively involved for 32 years.  He received the Girard Chamber of Commerce Citizenship Award in 1982 for his involvement with local youths.  Bob was one of the assistant coaches for the Girard High School Girls Basketball team in the early 2000’s.  He served on the board of the Lake Erie Community Federal Credit Union for more than 30 years.
Bob was often seen with his gang of friends at the Tuesday's lunch club at Wendy's in Girard, where one was always greeted with his unique smile.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas E. Ryan.
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, whom he married October 12, 1963 in Lake City, Dorvel (Doddie Vorse) Ryan, daughter, Sandra Zaksheske (Scott) of Fairview, son, Michael Ryan (Melissa) of Girard, grandchildren, Jesseca Jeska (Leo) of Erie, Kristin Walker (Derek Deutsch) of McKean, Courtney Walker of Wilmington, NC, Patrick Ryan, Nicholas Ryan and Deidra Ryan all of Girard, and five great grandchildren.  He is further survived by his sister, Carol Silis of Conneaut, OH and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Thursday at 10AM.
Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
