Obituary

Ricky L. Osborne, 75, of Springfield, died at home surrounded by family on Sunday, July 16, 2023.

He was born on December 12, 1947, son to the late Ozzie and Kitty Osborne.

Ricky grew up on the farm on Stoker road, graduating from Northwestern High School in 1965. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17, where he then served three tours overseas in Vietnam. He was stationed on the USS Intrepid, where he was Captain of Gun Mount 53, as well as serving inland on a river patrol boat as a Gunner. Ricky was very proud of his military service.

Upon his honorable discharge, Ricky returned to his hometown of Springfield, where he began a career in the glass industry. He began his career at the Erie Window Glass Company. As a glazier, Ricky served as the business agent for glazier’s Local #482 for many years. In 1987, Ricky took a bold step and decided to venture out on his own and transformed a rundown building in Conneaut, Ohio into Conneaut Glass & Glazing. The company continued to operate successfully until the early 2000's when Ricky and his wife decided to semi-retire and sell the business. Weekends during the summer were dedicated to operating his famous Blooming Onion trailer at local fairs. His trailer was always meticulously maintained, reflecting the pride he took in everything he did.

Blessed with a handy nature, Ricky purchased a camp near Hearts Content National Scenic Area, which he completely refurbished. The camp was a welcomed getaway and hunting cabin. Ricky’s enthusiasm for adventure extended to various activities with his sons including snowmobiling, go-kart racing, ATV riding and RC trucks, boats and airplanes. Additionally, Ricky loved the outdoors, often hunting, boating & fishing with his family. He also slowly built his dream home, with his wife, overlooking a beautiful apple orchard. Ricky also enjoyed camping in Benezette, with his grandchildren, the morning dew and a distant elk bugle to be heard. He was an active member of the Sanford United Methodist Church assisting in the building of a parsonage as well as maintaining a position on the church board. Ricky tended to be a stickler on what needed to be done, always a care on how a project should be done correctly. A hard working man that will always be remembered with a loving heart.  In his later years Ricky purchased a winter home in Florida.

Ricky was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gramma & Gump, which they held a very special bond, his parents and a great granddaughter Rosalie Jane in infancy.

Ricky will be greatly missed by his family which include his wife of 53 years, Diane (Fellows) Osborne whom he married on September 27, 1969; sons, Ricky L Osborne II (Rachael) and Daniel Osborne; grandchildren, Alexandra, Kayla, Dayna and Daniel Osborne Jr; great granddaughter, Johanna Osborne; sisters, Sharon Bainbridge (Alan), Linda Smith (Dwight), Shelia Medved; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sanford United Methodist Church, 2550 Sanford Road, Pittsfield, PA 16430.

Full Military Honors will be observed privately by the family.
