Richard B. “Bud” Wheeler, 86, of Fairview, went to be with his Lord, on Friday, April 28, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 9, 1936, in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late Donald E. and Bertha L. (Case) Wheeler.
Bud graduated from Girard’s Rice Avenue Union High School in 1955. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he trained as a field artillery technician at Ft. Knox, KY. He returned home and began work at Parker-White Metal, (now PHB) in Fairview, where he retired from as a Quality Control Inspector following 37 years of service to the company.
He was a member of Lake Erie Lodge #347 F&AM Girard and the Zem Zem Shrine. He was a member of one church his entire life, the Lake City Presbyterian Church, where he loved singing in the choir. Bud was a Cub Scout Leader for 4 years and later he and his wife were 4-H leaders and served on the board of directors for 20 years. During his time at Parker-White, he was treasurer of the union, president of the credit union, raised trout for stocking in the steams and ran kids’ day for fishing at Parker employees picnic grounds. Following his retirement, he was superintendent of 2 cemeteries, Fairview and Sterrettania for 20 years, retiring at 81 years old and continued to be a member of the board of directors there. Bud also served with the Community Blood Bank for many years and donated over 11 gallons of blood to the organization.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Redden and a brother, Ronald Wheeler.
Bud will be greatly missed by his family, which includes wife, Geraldine L. (Cassell) Wheeler, whom he married October 28, 1961. The couple had 3 wonderful children, Dorine M. (Wheeler) Biggie (Ronald), Bradley D. Wheeler, (Barbara) and Kevin R. Wheeler (Lori); 5 grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, Faith, Emiley and Lydia; 4 great grandchildren, Olivia, Penelope, Christopher and Natalya and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard. The Masonic Service will be held there on Monday at 6PM. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 10AM at the Lake City Presbyterian Church, 10088 Seeley St., Lake City with Rev. Deb Rimmer officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
