Richard L. “Dick” Kubiak, 75, of Fairview, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Twinbrook Healthcare in Erie.
He was born February 3, 1947, in Erie, a son of the late Michael and Rose (Sawicki) Kubiak.
Richard graduated from Tech Memorial High School in 1966. As America was at war in Vietnam, he was inducted into the U.S. Army immediately following high school. He served as a Sergeant and Tank Commander at Fort Hood, Texas and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal among other awards.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned home to Erie and began an Apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #56. He later received his Journeyman’s License and worked at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant for many years as an Electrician. He retired from the I.B.E.W. Local #56 in 2002.
Dick was a great role model for his family and many youths of the area to follow and a great encourager for people’s future. He also enjoyed having an occasional beer.
He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fairview and was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Baldwin and six brothers, Bernard, Joseph, Edward, Gerald, Leonard and Chester Kubiak.
He will be greatly missed by his family, which include his wife, Susan C. (Waskiewicz) Kubiak, whom he married November 9, 1968, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Erie; three daughters, Justine M. Kubiak of Pittsburgh, Julie A. Kubiak (Craig Bixler) of Manassas, VA, and Marlene E. Ebling (Alan) of Pittsburgh; his beloved two grandchildren, Carter and Caitlyn Ebling and many nieces and nephews.
No public calling hours will be observed
A Memorial Mass will be announced later.
Burial will be in the Cemetery of the Alleghenies National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 7100 W. Ridge Rd., Fairview, PA 16415.
