Rex Jackson Obituary

Rex P. Jackson, 71, of Albion, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on April 25, 1954, in Erie, to the late John and Audrie (Gardner) Jackson.

Rex was deeply involved in his community. He served as Mayor, Councilman, and President of Council in Lake City. He was a passionate advocate for disabled children in several local school districts. A proud member of the Masonic Order, Rex encouraged his son, Tony, to become a member of DeMolay.

He took his sobriety seriously and was dedicated to Alcoholics Anonymous throughout his life. Rex frequently sponsored others who sought to improve their lives and achieve sobriety. By trade, Rex was a tool and die maker but he also enjoyed entrepreneurship, having owned several businesses including a chimney sweeping service, concrete cutting company, hair salon and janitorial cleaning service.

Rex served as Cubmaster for a Cub Scout pack at East Springfield Elementary School and was always involved in activities with his son, Tony.

He was a former member of Lake City United Methodist Church, where he taught the adult Sunday school class, led the youth group and served as a lay speaker. More recently, while battling esophageal cancer, Rex attended services online from Berean Baptist Church.

He enjoyed motorcycle riding, fast cars and reading with the belief that reading could take you anywhere and teach you anything. Rex was known for his kindness, understanding and compassion. Among his favorite sayings were, “Always pay it forward” and “Learn something new every day.”

Rex is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Alice (Randall) Jackson; his brother, Carlton Jackson; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law: Elmer and Helene Randall, Florence Randall, Margaret Randall, Ella Mayberry, Larry Cottrell, Margaret (James) Schiavone, Ida (Joe) Jordan, Betty (Dave) Priester, Wanda (John) Bastuk, Marilyn Randall and Gary (Karen) Randall. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his beloved son, Anthony Jackson; his grandmother, Helen Eckonen; grandfather, Cecil Gardner; his parents-in-law, Cash and Dorothy Randall; brothers-in-law, Melvin Randall, Lester Randall, Bill Randall, Matthew Randall, Jerald Randall, and John Mayberry; and sisters-in-law, Anne Cottrell, Bonnie Victor, Mertie Mae Randall, and Sherry Randall.
