Raymond Brzozowski Obituary

Raymond J. Brzozowski, Sr. 79, of Platea Borough,, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, following a sudden illness at St. Vincent Hospital on Saturday April 9, 2022.

Ray was born in Erie, PA on November 3, 1942, the only son of the late, John and Stella (Malinski) Brzozowski.

Following high school, Ray enlisted and proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps. He deployed to Vietnam with the Fleet Marine Force, Pacific, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Aircraft Group-13, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron-323 where he was in Aircraft Maintenance. He served overseas one year and seven months. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device and the Good Conduct medal.

Upon his honorable discharge, Ray returned home to Erie, where he began working at General Electric as a welder until his retirement in 2000.

Ray was happiest when he had a fishing rod in his hand, either out on his boat on Lake Erie fishing for walleye and perch or fishing for trout at the creek with his son and grandsons.

He was a member of the SONS of Lake Erie and the Girard American Legion Post #494.

Ray was known by family and friends for his quick-witted sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. He enjoyed doing projects at home which allowed him to make several trips to Lowe’s and a quick trip to Walnut Creek on his way.

Ray along with his wife Susan, enjoyed country and blue grass music, attending many concerts and festivals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Annmarie “Annie” Buki.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Susan (McDonald) Brzozowski, his children, Patricia Baldwin (Zeke Thaler) of Erie, Raymond Brzozowski Jr. (Anna) and their sons Evan and Ethan of Waterford, and Marne Brzozowski (Tyler Young) of Painesville, OH; his sisters, Sylvia Schmitt (Joseph) and Patricia Mayer; brother in law, Joseph Buki and additional in laws include Guy McDonald (Mary), Cindy Panunzio (Frank), David McDonald (Linda), Dennis McDonald (Amy), Dale McDonald (Amy) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 2PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8PM at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Thursday at 10 AM, with Rev. Barb English officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in the Platea Cemetery.
