Paul R. DeMarco, 59 of Girard, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 17, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital.
He was born March 29, 1962 in Schenectady, New York, a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Pepe) DeMarco.
Paul graduated from Cathedral Prep in 1980 and following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1981. He served as a Machinist Mate for a total of eleven years, his last duty assignment was with the Trident (Submarine) Refit Facility, Kings Bay, GA, aboard the U.S.S. Boston Nuclear Submarine (SSN-703.) He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Medal with 1 Bronze Star, The Naval Expeditionary Medal, two Navy “E” Ribbons, (Battlefield Effectiveness Awards), Good Conduct Medal (X2), the National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one Bronze Star.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1992, Paul began employment with the United States Post office in Union City, then at the facility on 38th street as a Carrier, later a Supervisor at Presque Isle Post Office, and most recently Postmaster of the Albion Post Office.
Paul enjoyed reading Sci-Fi, Mysteries, and War books, traveling and loved family reunions. He doted on his pets; his dogs, “Junior”, “Tucker” and “Gunnar” and his all time favorite, “Sadie”; his three cats, “Mr. Dandy”, Cocomo” and “Otis.”
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane T. DeMarco, whom he married in Erie on December 3, 2005; his stepsons, Robert M. Gwinn (Amanda) and Timothy J Gwinn (Stephanie); his brothers, Bruce DeMarco (Laurie), Brian DeMarco (Kara) and Michael DeMarco (Carla); his Uncle Frank Pepe, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to the funeral service there on Monday at 10 a.m. with Military Honors to follow at Girard Cemetery.
