Paul Bensur Sr. Obituary

Paul A. Bensur Sr. 86, of Lake City, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at St. Vincent Health Center, following a brief illness.
He was born on September 8, 1932 to the late Joseph and Mary Justina (Pitch) Bensur in North Girard, PA. He graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1950.  After graduation he worked on the Nickel Plate Railroad as a trackman and at Lake Erie Forge and Steel.  Paul enlisted in the US Army in March of 1951.  Following basic training he deployed to Korea, aboard the U.S. Naval Ship Marine Serpent and later was awarded  the Army Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant for meritorious service as a member of HQ CO (POW Command); Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars; United National Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.  Paul returned home and began working at Morlite in Girard and was then hired by AMSCO as a grinder in the Machine Shop.  He was also a drill press operator and worked 39 years there until his retirement in 1994.
Although Paul worked many years at Sterilizer, his true passion was being on his small farm in Lake City. He was well known throughout the area for his ability to grow the finest fruits and vegetables and known by most as “The Squash Man”, of Erie County. To those who knew him well, they were able to "Take a Pull" from his own wine cellar and chatting room in the basement of his home. It was there that many problems were solved and laughter had by all.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Girard Council #5430 and 4th Degree Member of Assembly #0983; a member of the American Legion Post# 494 in Girard; and the Edinboro McKean VFW Post #740.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters: Frances Kuharsky, Anna Dudas, and Helen V. Meldon; brothers, Joseph F. Bensur, Jr., Sylvester Bensur, Robert Bensur, Thomas Bensur, John Bensur, and William Bensur.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Dolores A. "Dodie" (McGaughey) Bensur, whom he married on August 2, 1958 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in North East; four sons: Paul A. Bensur, Jr.(Lisa), Daniel J. Bensur (Patricia), Francis J. Bensur (Joy), and James A. Bensur (Tammie); sister-in-laws:  Carol Reinhold (Bill) and Margaret "Mitzi" Keough; brother-in-law: Robert McGaughey (Ellen); a brother: Edward Bensur (Mary); grandsons: Paul A. Bensur, III, Blaine Bensur, Jason Bensur, and Joshua Bensur; granddaughters: Nicole Warner, Gabriella Bensur, Julia Bensur, Justine Bensur, and Jacquelyn Bensur.
