Norman R. Ewing, 84, of Lake City, died Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 9, 1936 in Indiana, PA, a son of the late Donald and Elsie (Faith) Ewing.
Norm attended Indiana High School and following high school he enlisted in the United States Army. Norm served from January 1954 until January 1957 with the 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Division, as a Medic. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Occupation Medal and the United Nations Forces Medal. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he joined the National Guard, serving with the 112th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division for 3 more years. As a civilian, he worked for 39 1/2 years for GTE (General Telephone & Electric), now Verizon as a Combination Technician.
Norm was an avid outdoorsman. He loved deer hunting, relaxing at his cabin in Cook Forest and canoeing. He loved his labradors and his beloved horse, Bob. In his youth, his hobbies included flying airplanes, scuba diving and riding his motorcycle.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Pauline Ewing.
Norm will be greatly missed by his family which includes his wife, Marlene M. (Plazek) Ewing, whom he married on June 24, 1961 in Cresson, PA, also by two daughters, Kathleen Ewing of Erie and Rebecca Ewing (Robert Brown) of Girard; two sons, Thomas Ewing (Shelli) of Maybee, MI and Daniel Ewing (Safiye) of Rochester, NY; five grandchildren, Victoria Harper (Charles), Vanessa, Samuel, Connor and Hannah; great grandson Christian Harper.
There will be no calling hours observed.
