Norman F. Beatty, 79 of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in West Palm Beach Florida, following a brief illness.
He was born on January 7, 1944, in Erie, PA, a son of the late John and Eleanor (Danna) Beatty.
Norm graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1962. Following high school he enlisted in the US Navy, where he served from July 31, 1962 to August 10, 1966 during the Vietnam War. He deployed aboard the USS Conyngham (DD-371) a mahan-class destroyer and served three years and three months of foreign and sea service duty. He received the National Defense Service Medal. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Lake City and worked at Lord corporation for 42 years as a Machinist Technician, retiring in 2010.
Norm was a member of the Girard American Legion Post #494. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and taking care of the neighborhood ladies as their "go to guy" as their handyman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Iris C. (Carr) Beatty, whom he married on May 29, 1965, in Lake City; a sister, Betty Weyeneth and her husband, Robert; brother, James Beatty and brother-in-laws, John Gimber and Ed Pettigrew.
He will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his daughter, Tina Beatty-Hill of Lake Worth Beach, FL; a son, Norman S. Beatty (Sandi) of East Springfield; two sisters, Patricia Gimber and Shirley Pettigrew; grandchildren, Kaylee Hubbard (Justin), Kasey Hill and Kaytlyn Hill; great granddaughter, Raegan AnnMarie Hubbard.
According to Norm's wishes, there will be no calling hours observed.
