Nicholas John Mitcho Jr., 88, of Girard died on Monday, October 2, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 18, 1934, in Girard, PA. He was the son of the late Nicholas Mitcho Sr. and the late Mary (Hollander) Mitcho.
He graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1953 and served four years in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he joined the Gunnison Brother’s Tannery in Girard where he rose to the position of plant manager. During those years he attended Penn State Behrend for Management Training. He retired from the Tannery after forty-one years of dedicated service. In the community, has was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Girard, and longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5430 and the American Legion Post #494 Girard.
In his spare time, Nick enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He was a keen observer of nature and enjoyed sharing that wealth of knowledge with family and friends as he worked and walked his farm on Tannery Road. He also spent countless hours with his family playing pinochle and dominoes.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Rita Entrop Mitcho; his children, Kim Dudas (Gary Dudas), Karen Stroupe (Scott Stroupe), Mark Mitcho (Sabine Mitcho) and Michelle Mitcho; thirteen grandchildren, Jason Dudas, Ashley Smith, Justin Dudas, Nicole McKean, Jordan Dudas, Alexis Dudas, Garrett Stroupe, Lauren Stroupe, Lena Mitcho, Sean Mitcho, Sarah Webster, Tyler Jemetz and Kevin Jemetz; and one great-grandchild, Xavier Smith. He also is survived by a brother, Anthony Mitcho, a sister, Elizabeth Liscko and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Jean Desko, Mary Beam and Patricia Kopycinski.
By his request, the viewing and funeral service will be private, with internment at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery with full military honors.
