Neil Baxter Obituary

  Neil H. Baxter, 84, of Albion, died on Thursday December 31, 2020 at UPMC Hamot Hospital . 

  Neil was born on December 11, 1936, a son to the late Fred and Bessie (Hunter) Baxter. Neil graduated from Springfield Township High School in 1955. At a young age, he began working at the Frey Farm in Girard, in the fields as well as driving produce. Working there, he met his wife Ruth Carol Gilmore, whom he married in 1958. Neil became self-employed on his farm in 1960 Ne-Ru Dairy Farm. Throughout his life, he was dedicated to his family and the farm, often including those who worked with him on the farm into his extended family. His dairy herd was chosen as the top herd in Erie county by the Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) in 1970.

  Neil was a member of the Erie County Cooperative Extension, Milk Marketing Cooperative, Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Erie County Holstein Association, the Northwestern School Board, Grace United Methodist Church, Albion Area Fair Board, as well as president of the Albion Area Fair Board for seven years.

  In addition to his parents, Neil was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Carol (Gilmore) Baxter; two sons, Neil "Beef" Baxter and Joseph Baxter; three sisters, Caddie Followell, Mary-Maxine Weis, and Emma Gyolas; two brothers Lt. Col. Lewellyn Baxter and Richard Baxter.

  Neil will be greatly missed by his family which includes, three daughters, Emma Mack (Roman), Catherine Brooks (Ramy), Joanne Bolte (Bill); a sister, Vivian Colson; nine grandchildren, Bryce Baxter, Drew Baxter, Tyler Mack, Joshua Mack, Emily Mack, Abby Goodwin (Lucas), Molly Frye (Zach), Wyatt Brooks, Matthew Bolte; two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Bailey; also several nieces and nephews.

  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church 49 Franklin St, Albion, PA 16401 and the Albion Area Fair Academy St, Albion, PA 16401
