Naomi Kizina Obituary

Naomi Ellen Falk Kizina, 83, of Girard, passed away on June 19, 2022, surrounded by her loving family and friends after a lengthy and courageous battle with metastatic melanoma.
Naomi was born to the late Rufus Eugene Falk and Bertha LaVana Dempsey Falk Thrush, on March 12, 1939, in Brookville, Pennsylvania.  Naomi, or No-me as she was called, graduated from Brookville Area Joint High School in 1958.  No-me loved school and her teachers.  In her fond reminisces she often shared touching stories and silly memories of her years growing up in Brookville with her siblings.  Shortly after graduation, No-me moved to Erie for work.  She was employed for a short time at the ACME Supermarket where she made many lasting memories and friends.  It was in Erie that she met the love of her life, her husband Charles.  Upon the birth of her son, she became a loving homemaker.
Naomi married Charlie Kizina on December 3, 1961. At that time Naomi and Charlie began building their house in Girard Township, the home of which she was very proud.  Naomi took an active role in her children’s lives and school activities.  Over the years, she took a leadership role or participated in many school-related organizations, including PTA and the Girard Band Boosters.  Naomi spent many years volunteering countless hours to organizations which included the Platea Firemen’s Auxiliary, Girard American Legion, Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home of Erie, and the Erie VA.  An active member and officer in the Edinboro/McKean VFW Post 740 and Girard American Legion Post 494, Naomi and her good friend and “partner-in-crime” the late Doris Clisby organized and ran many events, picnics, games of BINGO, and dinners over the years.  There was never a task too big for Naomi to tackle.  She loved people and made friends wherever she went.
Naomi’s family and her children, Charles and Grace, were her pride and joy.  She also had an impressive list of people who were near and dear to her and whom she regarded as part of her family.  Former neighbors, the late John and Grace Wagner, became like second parents to Naomi.  Naomi opened her heart and home to her many dear friends who over the years also became family.  Adding to that “extended family” were those special to her and whom she considered her “kids.” You all know who you are. Naomi loved to play BINGO and attended a game any time that she could.  In her honor, play a game of BINGO and get to know the people sitting around you.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, David and Harry Falk and sisters Lesta Jean Wilson and Peggy Lou Haines.  Naomi is survived by her husband of more than sixty years, Charles Kizina of Girard.  She is also survived by a son, Charles D. Kizina (Kim) of Flowery Branch, Georgia, and a daughter Grace Kizina (Calvin Willis). Naomi is also survived by her “third kid” Tony Niebauer (Tammy), dear friends Norine Phipps and Robin Vanicek, her sister-in-law Nancy Smeltekop (Duane) and many nieces and nephews.  Naomi will be fondly remembered and missed for her kind and generous spirit, big heart, and fun-loving nature.
Friends may call at the Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main Street East, Girard on Wednesday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM and are invited to attend services there on Thursday at 10 AM. Final interment will be at the Girard Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Naomi’s memory to the Platea Volunteer Fire Company, 10012 Maple Street, Girard, PA 16417, or adopt a pet and/or make a donation to Because You Care Inc., 6041 West Road, McKean, PA 16426.  Because Naomi always sat to read with her children when they were young and fostered a love of books them at an early age, donate a book to the Rice Avenue  Public Library, 705 Rice Avenue, Girard, PA 16417.  She would be honored by that.
