Mary J. Brace, 79, of Albion, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
She was born February 2, 1947, a daughter of the late James C. and Gertrude E. (Bair) Demmery.
Mary graduated from Albion High School. Following her education, she was a waitress at the Green Shingle in Fairview, a well-known restaurant and truck stop, where she remained for many years. She later worked for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in Buffalo, NY before continuing her career with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania until her retirement.
At her heart and core, Mary was adventurous. From an early age she loved to dance, moving effortlessly with the music. That love of music led her to playing piano and singing, talents she carried with her throughout her life. The outdoors was Mary’s sanctuary. She enjoyed long walks, quiet moments in nature feeling the warmth of the sun, a gentle breeze, listening to and watching the animals, for which Mary had a deep love. She never passed up an opportunity to pet and snuggle with animals, especially horses. Whenever the opportunity arose, she loved being out on the waters of Lake Erie.
Mary also had a gift for painting, especially oil landscapes and scenic pieces reflecting her appreciation for nature’s beauty. She loved gardening, keeping flowers and landscapes vibrant and colorful. She loved her family and treasured the friendships she cultivated throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Lou Beason; and her brothers, Ronald and John Demmery.
Mary will be greatly missed by her family, including her sons, Shawn Bardsley (Tanya) and Michael Bardsley (Dina); her daughter, Jennifer Martin-Bardsley; her brother, James Demmery; her grandchildren, Amber Dale (Jason), Zennon Bardsley, Lewis Friend, Jonah Martin, Chase Martin, Joseph Bardsley, Jesika Bardsley, and Michael J. Bardsley Jr.; along with three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the A.N.N.A. Shelter, 1555 E 10th St, Erie, Pa 16511.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Graveside Service at Albion Cemetery on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 2:00pm.
