Marvin Brozell, 78, of Lake City, PA, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, surrounded by his family after a courageous journey with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
He was born on February 25, 1947, to the late Roy and Lucille (Blystone) Brozell.
Marvin graduated from Fairview High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force. From 1966 to 1970, he served with the 100th Air Missile Maintenance Squadron, completing two tours in Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona, where he met Anita, the love of his life, on a blind date. Six months later, they were married, beginning a loving partnership that lasted 55 years.
After completing his military service, Marvin began his civilian career with the Burroughs Corporation as a field service engineer, maintaining computer systems for the banking industry. Known for his technical expertise and problem-solving skills, he kept these important systems running smoothly, ensuring the banks could operate without interruption.
Marvin later learned the building trade under the guidance of his brother, whose mentorship helped shape his skills. He eventually established his own company, Brozell Builders LLC, specializing in residential homes and garages. The business quickly earned a reputation for its craftsmanship, and Marvin’s technical expertise continued to be a source of help and guidance to friends and family long after his retirement.
An avid outdoorsman, Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, skiing, cycling, and riding on ATVs. His hands were never idle—he found joy in gardening, working his land with his many tractors, and watching the birds and squirrels visit the feeders he built with care. In retirement, he poured his mechanical talents into restoring a 1966 Pontiac GTO—affectionately called the “Goat.” He was also a passionate sports fan, cheering on NASCAR, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Penn State football.
Family and friends were at the heart of Marvin’s life. He adored his wife and children and took great joy in watching his grandchildren grow. Whether traveling, playing cards, enjoying a movie, or simply spending time together, Marvin treasured these moments above all else. For him, it was the connections and time spent with loved ones that made life truly meaningful.
He will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his wife, Anita (Tavasci), whom he married on May 9, 1970; daughters Jennifer Maslar (Greg) and Sherri Halas (Jamie); son Brian Brozell (Leo); brother Dick Brozell (Shirley); grandchildren Jack Brozell, Samantha Halas, and Maddox Halas; as well as several nieces, nephews, dogs, and “grand dogs.” In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Lou Dunn, Evelyn Rogers, and Marilyn Vargulich, and his brother Ken Brozell.
We are so grateful for the many people who surrounded us with love and support as Marvin lived with ALS. Our nieces and nephews, neighbors, and friends gave so much of themselves. From tending his property through every season, to giving him hands-on care, checking in regularly, and even feeding the squirrels he loved to watch, their kindness brought great comfort to Marvin and meant the world to our family. We are especially thankful to the Erie VA ALS team and especially social worker, Michelle Carpin, and Chris Sider for their extraordinary care and support, which touched our hearts in countless ways.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Erie VA ALS Program. Donations should be made payable to the Erie VA Medical Center 135 E 38th St. Boulevard, Erie, PA 16504.
Friends may call on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Edder Family Funeral Home LLC, 309 Main St. E., Girard. Words of committal will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, with full military honors to follow.
