Margaret Pekelnicky Obituary

Margaret A. (Olesnanik) Pekelnicky, of McKean, PA, passed away on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, surrounded by the loving presence of family.

Margaret was born August 21, 1927, in Girard, a daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Majerik) Olesnanik.

Margaret attended the Fairhaven School in Girard Twp. She later married Stanley A. Pekelnicky on August 9, 1947. She and Stanley purchased a farm on Shadduck Road where they worked a small family dairy farm that they operated throughout their life while raising 11 children.

Margaret was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in McKean, where she was an active member in the Rosary Society, the Sunshine Circle, the Church “Prayer Chain”, and the McKean Golden Agers. She actively enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, bird watching, and especially time spent with her grandchildren & family.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley A. Pekelnicky on August 14, 1988; a daughter, Anne M. Sayers (Tim); a son, Stanley P. Pekelnicky (Rosemary); sisters, Dorothy Meeder and Josephine Travis; brothers, Steve Olesnanik, John Olesnanik, Joseph Olesnanik, Andy Olesnanik, and William Olesnanik.

Margaret will be greatly missed by her family which includes two daughters, Susan M. Barry (William) of Fairview, Mary Lou McCray (Michael) of Corry; seven sons, Thomas J. Pekelnicky of Gibsonia, Carl F. Pekelnicky (Martha) of East Springfield, Michael R. Pekelnicky of McKean, James D. Pekelnicky (Noreen) of McKean, John P. Pekelnicky (Lynette) of Edinboro, Joseph  G. Pekelnicky (Stephanie) of Edinboro, Robert Pekelnicky (Roberta) of Cranesville; a sister, Patty Ball of Fairview; brother,  E. Carl Olesnanik (Melva) of Girard, and 39 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A special thank you to Laura Sue Fornalczyk, Nate Pekelnicky, and Hannah Gray who cared for Margaret at home during her final years. Thank you to her independent caregivers Diana, Laura and Missy as well as Kat and Heartland Hospice Team for their care and support.

Friends may call from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 16th at the Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard. A brief calling will be held from 9am to 10am on Thursday, October 17th at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, located at 8880 Main St, McKean, PA 16426, prior to Margaret’s funeral mass being held at 10am.  Burial Services will follow mass and will be held at the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, located on West Road.
