Lloyd Yarrington Obituary

Lloyd Edward "Ed" Yarrington, 96, of Fairview, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2024.

Ed was born on April 18, 1928, to the late Lloyd and Myrtle (Vorse Weaver) Yarrington. He married Lois on November 14, 1953 and enjoyed 62 years of marriage until her death in 2016.

Ed was described in his high school yearbook as "girl shy, brains and brawn." He played in the 1945 East/West all-star football game. He retired from Fairview Evergreen Nursery after working there for the majority of his life. Ed had a strong work ethic and willingness to help others. He would give anyone a helping hand even if meant that it would leave his hands empty. Ed was always seen with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. He enjoyed telling stories, limericks and jokes. He loved dancing, especially polka and square dancing with his late wife Lois, and even after her passing he was always looking for a dance partner. Ed enjoyed horseshoes, arm wrestling, cribbage, and euchre. He loved spending time with his "sipping" buddies. He was well-known for his homemade sauerkraut and wine. Ed watched Wheel of Fortune every day and usually came up with the answer before anyone else.

Ed proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean War Veteran Ambassador for Peace Medal, a Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the United Nations Service Medal.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by his step-father Williard (Bill) Weaver; his son Thomas Yarrington, son-in-law Mark Schauerman; his brothers David, Gordon, and Bruce Yarrington; sisters Lois Wilson, Jean Franks, Betty Getz, and Maxine Yarrington; good friends Frank Rossman, Kel Hailwood, Frenchie Duguay, Doug Lester, Olga Polk, Jack Gable, John Hinkle, Curty Hinkle, and many more.

Ed will be deeply missed by his loved ones, including his daughters Ellen Schauerman (Charles), Barbara Mills (Gary), and Nancy Yarrington; daughter-in-law Linda Kelly (Joe); six grandchildren Todd Yarrington (Erin), Karra Yarrington, Tom Yarrington, Chris Schauerman (Jenn), Anne Schwartz (Matt), and Kimm Mills (Katelyn); ten great-grandchildren Jordan and Vanessa Hagerty, Jack, Hannah and Sam Yarrington, Ashley and Allison Schauerman, Gwen Yarrington, Elise and Graham Mills; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He will also be missed by his good friends Charles Foht, Lynda Samilio, Jack and Tracy Wilczynski, Steve Counts, Kevin Pentycofe, Mike Kraus, Ramon Cruz, Bob and Darlene Elwinger, and Hal and Carol Richardson.

The family would like to give special thanks to Anne Schwartz, Charles Foht, and Jack Wilczynski for helping us care for Ed at home. We wouldn’t have been able to keep him at home without their help. We would also like to thank Father Tom and the entire Holy Cross family, everyone at the Erie VA Medical Center, VA Hospice, and Great Lakes Hospice.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND FLOWERS. Multiple family members are allergic to flowers, perfumes, and other strong scents. In lieu of flowers, please take a moment to celebrate Ed's life by making a toast, sharing a favorite memory, joke or poem.
