Lloyd E. Weidler Jr., 89, of Platea, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at his home.
He was born September 20, 1934, a son to the late Lloyd E. Sr. and Sarah (Kirsopp) Weidler.
Lloyd, affectionately known as Pom Pom by his family was a Fairview native. He graduated from Fairview High School, furthering his studies at Slippery Rock University, specializing in Physical therapy for a year. He then enlisted into the United States Navy, a decision that took him across the nation providing care as a Hospital Corpsman. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Slippery Rock to receive a Bachelor’s Degree, building on this foundation he continued to Pittsburgh University receiving a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy. He began his professional career at Saint Vincent Hospital. Lloyd’s dedication quickly propelled him to become the chief of the department, working in the fulfilling role for 38 years. Lloyd was passionate about his work and was well received from patients and coworkers alike.
He lived in a simple way with the life of a true hunter and fisherman, belonging to a select few in the great outdoors. He took with him on all his excursions his loving and competitive wife, Ginny. Their remote camp in the Canadian wilderness was a sanctuary of peace from this busy world. Lloyd’s loving and encouraging influence on others was noticed in his quiet yet profound nature. He was involved in the Albion Sportsman’s Club trap shooting. He was a member of the Girard Masonic Lodge #347, the Erie Zem Zem Shriners and a life member of the Girard American Legion Post #494.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Virginia (Klemm) Weidler and a brother, Richard Weidler.
He will be greatly missed by his family which include his daughter, Virginia Ann Crock; sisters, Jane Schwab, Laurel Mayes (Zell) and Cheryl Harvey; granddaughters, Wendy Filipowski (Brian) and Stacey Carr (Steve); five great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
