Laverne Yonkin Obituary

  Laverne E. Yonkin, 83, of Fairview died on Monday, April 25, 2022 at UPMC Hamot Hospital.

  He was born October 13, 1938 the eldest son of the late Theron and Agnes (Gallagher) Yonkin.

  Vern graduated from Galeton Area High School in 1956. Following high school he moved to the Erie area where he began his career at Erie Insurance. His initial position was as an insurance adjuster moving to a claims supervisor in his thirty five years of employment. Vern retired in 2000.

  He was a family man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Living each day full of life Vern was a man of many talents. He was a gifted painter often depicting local landscapes and portraits of loved ones. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his sons on Lake Erie in his prized fishing boat. Vern loved to take trips to the farm to hunt and relax with family. He also built cabinetry in his spare time. In his earlier years he coached with a team of young men with Tri-borough baseball. Vern was a member of the Sons of Lake Erie Fishing Club. He also attended Blessed Sacrament Church with his wife.
  In addition to his parents Vern was preceded in death by his brother Theron “Bud” Yonkin.
  Vern will be greatly missed by his family which include, his wife Mary (Chimenti) Yonkin whom he married October 26, 1999 in Las Vegas; sons, Timothy Yonkin, Scott Yonkin, Eric Yonkin (Kirsten); step-son, Christopher Noble; step-daughter, Kara Blank; brothers, Richard Yonkin (Mary), Ronald “Gabby” Yonkin (Linda), Edward Yonkin (Gayle); sister, Ann Chagnon (Al); grandchildren, Jacob, Danielle, Zack, Savannah, Henry, and T.j Yonkin; step-grandchild, Jayden Noble; a life long friend Walter Hugler; as well as many nieces and nephews.
  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association Erie Division - 2803 Altantic Avenue Erie, PA 16506 or to Erie County Diabetes Association 1128 State St #302, Erie, PA 16501

A celebration of life will be held Privately by family.
