Kenneth F. Schwenk, 90 of Fairview, died Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at UPMC Hamot. He was born September 25, 1930 in Erie, the son of the late Frank and Eleanor (Engel) Schwenk.
Ken graduated from Erie’s Academy High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Agerholm (DD-826) a Gearing class destroyer. He deployed with his shipmates in May of 1952 with task force 77, to Korea. There, his ship was responsible for screening and planeguard duties and conducted Naval gunfire as required. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he began working for Western Electric out of Cleveland, OH eventually retiring from WE after 30 years in the telephone and telegraph industry. During this time, he and his family relocated to the Erie area. Following his retirement from WE, he worked for WQLN.
Ken was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Girard, where he was an Elder and assisted with the children’s pre-school. He was a current member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Erie. Ken was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and his love of cooking was enjoyed by many, including the Lock family reunions and hunting camp friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette (Lock) Schwenk in 2007, whom he married November 20, 1953 in Cleveland and a grandson, Kevin Graham in 1990.
Ken will be greatly missed by his family, which include two daughters, Bonnie Miller and Barbara Graham; four sons, Alan Schwenk (Dale), Marvin Schwenk (Sue), Noel Schwenk (Mujgan) and Alfred Schwenk (Diane); nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Also left to cherish his memory are his companion Cordelia “Deda” Warchol and her family.
No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be held at a later date with full military honors. Burial will be in the Restland Cemetery, Bainbridge, OH.
