Kathleen Porter Obituary

Kathleen Carol “K.C.” (McKay) Porter, 74 of Girard, was called home to receive her eternal reward on May 2, 2021, following a valiant fight with leukemia, surrounded by her adoring family.

K.C. was born December 14, 1946 in Erie to the late Walter O. & Ruth (Sherman) McKay. She grew up in Lake City, the youngest of eight children. K.C. graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School, Girard in 1964 and went on to study at West Liberty University.

K.C. was an adventurous young woman. A lover of people, travel and most importantly, life. Undoubtedly, it was this combination of qualities that drew her to the man who would become the love of her life, stock car driver Clyde W. Porter.

In 1969, the two were wed and they began to build a life and family together on Gudgeonville Rd near K.C.'s beloved covered bridge. They would have four children, all of whom they were immensely proud of.

K.C. grew her spiritual family by accepting Jesus Christ into her heart as her Lord and Savior 1983. She joined Bethel Assembly of God in Girard which became the focal point of her young family's life.

Through reading her father's word and employing her bigger than average heart, she developed the philosophy that everyone, no matter their lot in life or current situation, deserve love and respect. It was this thinking that led her to open her home to countless people over the years who were down on their luck or the underdog. If K.C. believed in you, she would be on your side as biggest fan and protector for life. This is how she earned the nickname Mama Porter.

K.C. loved to go camping on Lake Erie. She spent much of her free time cheering on all Cleveland sports teams, especially her beloved Indians. She loved her animals with her horse Shimmer and her precious cat Baby, whom was with her till her last breath, being most important.

K.C. had a large and precious family which included her brothers and sisters, in-laws and her many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde W. Porter; her brothers, Walter (Jr.) and Ralph E. McKay; her sisters, Ruth (McKay) Jacobs, Marion McKay and Jean (McKay) Kent.

She will be greatly missed by her loving sister, Judy A. McKay; brother, Robert McKay; four children, Brett A. Porter, Aaron B. and Donnette (Hodge) Porter, Kylene M. (Porter) and Steve Shaulis as well as Kristopher M. and Kira K. (Swab) Porter; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Brandon, Lily and Liam, Kayleigh, Jonah and Conner; and two great-grandchildren; her brother in law, Reid (Anna)Porter; her Sister in Law’s, Donna (Porter) Pfeffer and Faye Langdon Descamps; and all of her nieces, nephews and cousins whom mean the world to her and filled her life with love and joy…you all know who you are and she loved held a spot for each of you in her heart.

Her life came to a close but her spirit lives on through all of those mentioned and all of you out there whom where a part of our family during her life.
