He was born August 16, 1922 on the family farm on Moses Road in Albion and was the son of the late Metro and Mary (Chaban) Suscheck.

Following World War Two, he was honorably discharged and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and the World War Two Victory Medal.
Following his tour of duty, he returned to Albion and completed his high school education.  He married the love of his life, Ann (Rood) on June 7, 1947.  For the next 75 years, their devotion was to their eight children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John had 23 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
A parade honoring John on his recent 100th birthday was held by the Girard American Legion Honor Guard, Girard and Lake City police and fire departments, and many friends.  You always saw John wearing his WW2 veteran’s cap and buying lottery tickets at Giant Eagle.  He received countless accolades over the years thanking him for his military service.
John worked for 44 years at Rogers’ Brothers Corporation in Albion and held the position of foreman in many departments throughout the plant.  Following injuries suffered during the 1985 Albion tornado, and the loss of their home, he and Ann then relocated to Fairview.  He was a former member of St. Lawrence Church, Albion and most recently of St. John the Evangelist Church, Girard.  He and Ann were instrumental in building the new St. Lawrence Church in 1975.  John was a fourth degree grand knight in the Knights of Columbus and worked tirelessly promoting the mission of the K of C organization.  John was a member of the Albion and Girard American Legions and was recently honored for being a 50-year member.
He and Ann loved to roller skate at Shadeland Roller Rink, go to movies at the Albion movie theater and dance polkas during their courtship days.  Following their marriage, they bought the family home in Albion from Ann’s parents (where Ann was born and raised) and raised their 8 children in that home.
John built a summer cottage for his large family in 1961 on the shores of Lake Erie in North Springfield (fondly known as “Little Albion”) and many cherished memories remain of those summers long ago.  The cottage is still enjoyed by his family.
