John Edward Fleek, 75, of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, formerly of Lake City, PA died on Tuesday April 18, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith following a battle with illness.
He was born in Erie on December 16, 1947. He was the son of the late Preston E. and Catherine (McCarty) Fleek.
John graduated from St. John the Evangelist Parochial School in Girard and Girard Union High School. He earned a BS in Business Management from Gannon University. John pursued a career as a Purchasing Manager with various companies around the country, namely Today's Kids in Greenwood, Arkansas and E-Z-Go Golf Carts in Augusta, Georgia.
While living in the Erie area, John joined the Big Brothers Association mentoring Jeremy Sayles, who remained a lifelong friend. He also kept a small motor boat at the Marina, the Hereafter, on which family and friends were treated to many boisterous rides around Bay and Lake. John remained an avid, if dubious golfer wherever he landed. He was devoted to his Catholic faith and was happily involved in parish activities in all the cities where he worked. John volunteered with the Sack Lunch Program, helping to provide meals to people facing hunger. He had an impish, mischievous sense of humor invoking a response of riotous laughter from friend and stranger alike. John was a kind, generous, loving, hilarious man who will be missed enormously by all who love him.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin R. Fleek.
