Johanna "Jo-Jo" Moore Obituary

Johanna (Jo-Jo) Marie Billings Moore of Girard, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania on April 22, 1950, she was the daughter of the late David V. Billings and Mary Yusko (Fusco).

Johanna attended Rice Avenue Union High School, graduating as part of the Class of 1968. She attended Tri-State Business School and was awarded a certification in business.

She went on to work for several places including the Lake City IGA as a cashier, Brook-Park Plastics as a finish packer, and finally retiring from Walmart Vision as an optician.

A chance meeting on March 24th, 1979 led to a lifetime of love, cherished memories, and a close-knit family with the love of her life, Stephen. Johanna and Stephen Moore were married May 23rd, 1980, and they proceeded on life’s journey together. Johanna’s favorite place in all the world was next to her husband, Stephen.

Johanna was a passionate and driven individual who was not only fiercely independent, but a person who sought perfection in any task she endeavored. Johanna was an impeccable dresser and an immaculate housekeeper; Jo could spot a crumb on her floor at twenty feet away! Throughout her life she enjoyed shopping for a bargain, going to the casino, baking custom decorated cakes, assembling puzzles, and playing word games.  Johanna loved baking cookies at Christmas - up to thirteen different kinds were shared throughout the season. Jo-Jo most enjoyed giving of herself to others, especially her family. Johanna will always be remembered as dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was deeply loved and will be forever missed by her loved ones.

Johanna is proceeded in death by her parents; her brother, Lance Corporal David V. Billings; half-sister, Barbara Powers; stepsister, Rebecca Sabol; and stepbrother, James Schultz.

In addition to Stephen, her devoted husband of forty-six years, Johanna is survived by her two children, Kimberly Smock and Matthew Moore (Rachel); her sister and best friend, Deborah Bender (Fred); five grandchildren, Brandon Boettiger, Carly Smock, Allysa Smock, Dustin Smock, and Ruth Johanna Moore; and three great-grandchildren, Hunter Masters, Nevaeh Smock and Leland Smock.

At Johanna’s request, there will be no viewing and internment will occur at a later date at Girard Cemetery. The family wishes to thank our friend, Holly Hafner, for outstanding help, guidance, and love with Johanna’s care. We also want to thank the nurses and staff of Lakeland Hospice for their exceptional care of our Johanna. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to Lakeland Area Hospice, 1005 Peninsula Dr # B, Erie, PA 16505.
