Joel A. Nace, 80, of Erie, died on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at UPMC Hamot Hospital.
He was born on December 4, 1941 a son of the late John J. and Margaret (London) Nace.
Joel graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1960 where he was a stand out basketball player and was coached by Chuck Daly. He was awarded a fully paid scholarship to play at the University of Colorado where he completed one year. After his education he moved to the Erie area to pursue work and start a family. He maintained a career in manufacturing at Niagara Plastic and retired after many years of service after a job well done.
Throughout his years he was always passionate about athletics. Joel enjoyed playing basketball, golf and was a coach for local softball and basketball leagues for youth sports. He also loved to watch sporting events and often attended the Pitt University football and basketball games in addition to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Joel enjoyed going to Casinos and Derbies to watch live horse racing events and in his leisure time he would watch old western films. He enjoyed weekly family dinners spending time with his grandchild listening to Motown, such as the Four Tops, The Spinners and Marvin Gaye. In Joel’s later years he was often stimulated with documentaries, particularly those that involved advanced research into the healing of the body and was advocate diabetes education and prevention.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Elizabeth A (Hundy) Nace; and a sister, Joie Ann Nace.
He will be greatly missed by his family which include his daughter Sharon V. Nace and her partner Israel Gordon; a brother, John “Jack” Nace; grandchildren, Bradley, Jasmine and Giavanni Gordon; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A private burial will take place at Gate Of Heaven Cemetery.
