Jean Marie Smith

Jean Marie Smith, 72, of East Springfield, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by loved ones, on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

She was born in Phoenix, AZ, on June 28, 1953, a daughter of Mae (Myers) Smith.

Jean attended Academy High School and later enlisted in the United States Army. During her service, she earned the rank of Personnel Specialist during the Vietnam era and received the National Defense Service Medal. Upon her discharge, she moved back home to Erie, where she later retired from her position with Erie County. Her loyalty and dedication to her career remained steadfast for many years.

Jean had a faithful companion for many years, Gordon J. Bowers, her best friend. In her younger years, she often went camping with her family and with Gordon, enjoying time away from home. She loved to travel, with Las Vegas being one of her favorite destinations, and she and Gordon also enjoyed many cruises together. Jean loved music-especially listening to Gordon play guitar. She enjoyed rock ’n’ roll and attended many concerts. She had a large movie collection she often watched in the evenings, and she also enjoyed quiet nights spent working on puzzles. Jean loved the company of her dogs throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughters, Chastity Lesh (Jason), Tammy Smith, and Carrie Riazzi; four sisters; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother; her companion; two brothers; and two sisters.

A celebration of life for Jean will be held at a later date.
