Jean Lucille Oakes

Jean Lucille (Ingold) Oakes , 70, of Girard, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

She was born on October 5, 1954, in Erie, PA, to the late Lester and Hertha (Schroeder) Ingold.

Jean graduated from Northwestern High School in 1972. She worked as a secretary for Morlite Systems Inc. and also bartended at Willy's and the Town Terrace. She later worked as a pharmacy technician at the Girard Rite Aid. While employed at PHB, she was actively involved in the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union. Jean went on to work at Community Dialysis as a secretary and hemodialysis technician, all while earning her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Gannon University. She became a nurse at Community Dialysis and retired in 2016 as the infectious disease nurse at SCI Albion, where she was also a union member.

Jean loved to read, especially her beloved historical romances. She could often be found caring for her grandchildren or visiting every yard sale she could find.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Murray; brother, Jim Ingold; nephew, Kevin Murray and her niece, Dawn Owen.

She is survived by her daughter, Allison Steiner, and her four grandchildren: Hannah, Brantley, Madison and Wyatt. She is also survived by her brother, John Ingold; her sisters, Joanne Washabaugh (Paul) and Jane Ingold; three nieces, one nephew, as well as her beloved dog, Gunner, and several cats she adored.

A special thank you goes to her doctors at Elk Valley Medical Center and the St. Vincent’s Family Medicine Team for the wonderful care they provided to Jean and her family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s name may be made to the Girard High School Cheerleaders, 1135 Lake Street, Girard, PA 16417, as Jean's granddaughter is a squad member.
